These days, people keep all sorts of pets at home. Dogs, cats, fish, birds and rodents are on the agenda. Recently, spiders, snakes, chameleons, tigers and other animals that we would rather see at the zoo or on Discovery are no longer surprising. Every pet needs to be taken care of, regardless of the requirements of the breed or species - some things about caring for animals are the same. Here are some tips:
1. Pet kingdom
Each animal must have a separate place where you can create its own, independent kingdom. Even if the pet is not willing to stay in the "pen", it should have its toys or a blanket there. Eventually, he'll get used to the smell in that one spot and instinctively come back to it. If you're changing rodent shavings in an aquarium or cage, remember early on how things were spaced out in your kingdom. For example - little mice dig chips around the houses they live in, which usually takes a while. Therefore, if you replace the bedding, you can then sprinkle the house in the same way as the rodent did before. Do not significantly interfere with the place where your pet is, because it gets used to its surroundings. It's like someone rearranging the furniture in your home once in a while without saying a word. Wouldn't you be pleased?
2. Adequate food and clean water
Remember to always provide your pet with access to clean, cool water. Some animals can let you know that they are thirsty. The rabbits grab a bowl or cap (which they usually have water in) and throw them on the bars of the cage. This is a signal to you that they would like a drink. The dog may bark. However, you should not allow the animal to "request" for water. It's the same with food. Be careful not to overfeed your pet, as it can be very harmful to him. Obese animals, just like people, get very tired and can quickly leave this world. It is also often better to feed your pets regular, natural food rather than modified boxed food. A rabbit will more readily eat carrot peelings or clover, and a hamster a piece of biscuit than a mixture from a cardboard package.
3. Washing your pet
Pets need to be washed once in a while, because - like people - they get dirty. This applies especially to dogs and cats, i.e. generally "hairies". It is best to take the dog to the bathtub and wash it there in the shower. The same goes for the cat. Note that rodents clean themselves, but it does not hurt to pay attention to whether they are clean. You can always take a bunny or a mouse in your hands and gently wash them. Also, do not forget about combing animals that have fur. Once in a while you have to comb them so that you don't have to look for his lint all over the house ;-).
4. Entertainment
Even animals like to play. Since they are most intimate with their guardian, he should provide them with entertainment. With a dog you can play with literally everything, both at home and outside. Set aside at least a quarter of an hour a day to play with your pet. You can just throw a rattle or anything else (ball, toy) to the dog. Cats love to play with a ball of thread or something on a string, such as a yo-yo. Because it's hard to chase a rodent, snake or spider, keep them entertained in an aquarium, cage or terrarium. Mice love to spin around in a circle, a snake will gladly wrap itself around branches or hide behind stones and plants. Fish willingly swim into shells and houses. Pets really do not like to be bored!
5. Daily duties with the pet
They can be monotonous and tiring, but remember that having a pet is not only a pleasure, but also - and perhaps especially - responsibilities. If you go to work in the morning and can't walk the dog outside, arrange who in your family will do it. Animals cannot be neglected. A cat likes to spend its days outside the four walls, but if you live in an apartment, it can be difficult for him to commute between the house and the yard. Teach him to use the litter box and change the litter whenever needed! It is good to let the rabbit out of the cage at least once a day to jump and run. Clean up after your pets, feed them and entertain them, and you'll all be happy.
Pets can bring so much joy to your life. Provided that you do not neglect your duties - then not only you will be tired, but also this little pet who can repay you with a beautiful friendship!
